Spring Break Reset

This slice is part of
of the March Slice of Life Challenge on  Two Writing Teachers! #sol25. I’m slicing every day in March. Thanks for stopping by!

We went back from spring break today.
It was also a two-hour delay.
As I’m learning, breaks from school make us forget.
Procedures need reviewed,
we need a routine reset.
I get it, I do.
I need a reset too.

But, even though I’m not
surprised
it’s hard not to
roll my eyes.
Like, can I be more blunt?
A line is where someone’s behind you,
and
someone’s in front

I’m sure you will agree
There’s not that many good reasons
to interrupt me
and please, in general
pick a better time
a non direction-giving time
to sharpen your pencil.

I’m glad you are done, or
think you are done
(or are wondering what you are supposed to do)
or need some one on one.
I know waiting is tough,
you’ve had enough.
I get, I do.
I need a reset too.

  1. We came back from our break today, too, so I *really feel this post. “A line is where someone’s behind you, and someone’s in front” made me laugh out loud. How hard can this be, people? And today I unplugged and *hid* the electric pencil sharpener. It may never come out again. hahaha

  2. haha…all of these ring so true! It’s amazing sometimes after a break, as if the kids have no clue of your expectations. But after a day (or two) most will fall into the comfort of structure they like. 🙂

  3. You hit on a big truth in this Spring Break Reset poem.

Makes me laugh that Amanda Potts hid her pencil sharpener. 😂
