Part of Slice of Life by Two Writing Teachers March Slice a Day Challenge! I’m slicing every day this month. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
We forced the kids to go on a long walk with us today
There was complaining
There was whining
There was fighting
And then there was this moment that two siblings walked together and chatted
I mean, they were chatting about Instagram
But, they were chatting
I mean, it only lasted a moment and then
There was fighting
There was whining
There was complaining
Tomorrow we will force them on another long walk
And we will hope for more moments, less
fighting, whining, complaining
Little by little, we will shift the balance
This is our social distancing plan
This is our homeschool plan
Good Plan! Exercise- bonding- learning- and conversation!
I know! My niece sent a picture of her and her friends on a hike, all 6 feet apart!
Haha a great poem, that just expresses the feelings entirely! I’m so glad you caught a brief moment of chatting in the midst of the disgruntledness. Let’s hope it does build to something better over time!
This is beautiful! The complaining/fighting/whining made me laugh at first, but I love how it shifted over the course of the poem. I really love the lines when you said, “I mean…” –how you expressed the joy and the limitations of the moment. Here’s hoping you’re able to shift the balance quickly.
