I am participating in the March Slice of Life Challenge: A slice a day for all of March. You should do it too! Thank you, Two Writing Teachers! Readers, check out their site, and start slicing!
If I'm going to be a writer I need a room of my own or at least a quiet desk somewhere if I'm going to be a writer. I need a time of my own or at least a quiet 20 minutes sometimes if I'm going to be a writer. I need a daily walk of my own or at least a quiet walk with the dog if I'm going to be a writer. I need a way to finish my thoughts or at least a way to start them if I'm going to be a writer. I need a handy writer's notebook or at least a corner of a page if I'm going to be a writer. I need a bunch of revisions or at least a few harsh critiques if I'm going to be a writer. I need to send a query letter or at least do more than a twitter pitch if I'm going to be a writer. I need to live a writerly life or at least a few writerly minutes if I'm going to be a writer.
I love your poem. I can hear the busy/mom teacher in your words and I see a connection to yestetday’s slice. Your words speak to my thinking about writing once we’re back to work next week. Maybe we can help eachother with this.
Yes! Team Slice!
With or without those things, you are already a writer, my friend. An excellent writer!
Oh, I adore this poem, especially in the repetition. Your last lines about living a writerly life are my favorite! I will be thinking about these words as I find time to write today!
I love the structure here and the repeating lines and “a few writerly minutes.” Sometimes that’s all we have in a day, and your poem reminds me to make them count.
I love this, Ona! Sometimes life conspires against us to even find “a quiet 20 minutes.” But we’re good at finding minutes here and there, and eventually they all add up and we ARE writers!
