#sol22 March 6 Dried Mangos

Slice of LIfe
Part of Slice of Life by Two Writing Teachers March Slice a Day Challenge! I’m slicing every day this month. Thanks for stopping by!
I haven't shared dried mangos on a road trip with Mardi for 2 years
the math doesn't make sense --
for 2 years
I haven't
called her for advice
or let her crunch most of the acorns on our walk
She hasn't emailed me after reading this very blog
for 2 years.
I haven't
locked eyes with her - one snarky, sarcastic joyful face to another
So now,
I always make sure I have dried mangos
on every road trip
for her
I crunch every acorn I find
for her
I find myself writing about her again and again
and of course,
I make sure to be sarcastic as much as possible
for her - totally just for her
My favorite look from my favorite Mardi

  1. “totally just for her” Your title drew me in because I adore Trader joe’s dried mangos and haven’t had them in a long time – two years. Then, you masterfully redirected me to your friend and the ways you remember her. Keep those mangos, acorns and memories going.

  2. I know losing a friend is totally different, but my dad always says he feels closest to his mom when he’s in the kitchen, that’s why he spends so much time in there. Sounds like you’re feeling close to Mardi in the best ways possible. Thanks for sharing this special post.

  3. One of my favorite Mardi faces as well. Love you and I love that continue to write and remember and to pack dried mangos. She is with you. Enjoy your trip! ❤

  4. Such a precious reminder of someone – I have no doubt – who is very dear. I hear the grief in each memory you weave. This is so beautiful and sad – “the math doesn’t make sense —
    for 2 years”

  5. This is a lovely post that brings a memory of a loved one to life! Thank you for sharing. I resonated with “..the math doesn’t make sense..” not only in my own experiences of loosing someone, but also a positive outlook on life. 4 years ago, I was a completely different person. It is unbelievable the moments that time holds.

  6. Mardi will always be with you through your cherished memories. Live them, love them, and let them bring tears of joy.

  7. Thank you for sharing your grief journey with us. I hope the memories make you smile, too, as you write about her again and again. It is so hard to believe she has been gone that long.
