Guilt.
I wonder what it feels like
to have
Real Guilt
Capitalized on purpose
Guilt
Betrayed your family
Guilt
Cheated on your wife
Guilt
Committed a crime
Guilt

it’s bad enough
to have
sitting on the couch
guilt.
did I work enough on Sunday
guilt
ordered take out for dinner again
guilt
didn’t take the dog on a second walk
guilt

baby guilt
lower case
guilt
is enough
guilt
for me

  1. I loved how you named all the different types of guilt – how ingenious! I certainly have experienced the “sitting on the couch” guilt many times. After I read your post, you had me thinking that maybe I am doing okay if I am only having “baby guilt” and I shouldn’t feel so bad about it. Thanks!

  2. Hahahaha!! I love this!

“it’s bad enoughto havesitting on the couchguilt.”

    God, yes.

  3. SO perceptive and original! I also ove your lists- of capital G guilts and lowercase g guilts, which we are ALL plagued by. I will be adding the expression “baby guilt” to my lexicon from now on!

  4. I appreciate your comparison of Guilt vs. guilt. I too feel the “guilt” heavily—- and way too often I think! I couldn’t imagine feeling… Guilt…

  5. I also appreciate the term “baby guilt”. Love that! I still have guilt about retiring when I did – surely I could have continued a few years more, saving more money (for health insurance), working with students, being with my colleagues…. And the parental guilt? Ugh. I don’t want to talk about THAT.

Thanks for helping put guilt into perspective.
